“Indian-American Harmeet Dhillon Entering Spotlight with Trump’s Civil Rights Nomination”

Trump Nominates Indian-American Harmeet Dhillon for Assistant Attorney General Role in Civil Rights

Washington:
US President-elect Donald Trump has officially nominated Indian-American Harmeet K. Dhillon for the position of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, his own social media platform, emphasizing Dhillon’s accomplishments and her commitment to civil liberties.

“I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the US Department of Justice,” Trump stated.

The President-elect praised Dhillon’s track record, noting her efforts to protect civil liberties, particularly her stance against big tech censorship, representation of Christians denied the right to pray during the COVID-19 pandemic, and legal actions against corporations implementing discriminatory “woke” policies.

Trump highlighted her role as one of the leading election lawyers in the US, asserting that she has fought to ensure that only legal votes are counted. “Harmeet is a respected member of the Sikh community. She will defend constitutional rights and enforce civil and election laws with fairness and resolve,” Trump said.

Dhillon, a Dartmouth College and University of Virginia Law School graduate, began her career by clerking at the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Despite facing racial attacks earlier this year after reciting Ardas at the Republican National Convention in July, Dhillon continues to maintain a prominent role in the Republican Party.

In 2022, Dhillon unsuccessfully contested for the role of Republican National Committee chair. Born in Chandigarh, India, Dhillon immigrated to the United States as a child and was notably the first Indian-American to speak at the GOP Convention in Cleveland in 2016. At 54 years old, she is now poised to take on a pivotal role in the fight for civil rights in the Biden administration’s justice system.
